The Howard School Sport Partnership

Welcome to the Howard School Sport Partnership which is a collection of schools (in Rainham, Gillingham, Strood and the rural area of Medway - Kent) working together in families to share resources, facilities, teaching and coaching expertise and an infrastructure of staff.

The ultimate vision is that:

"The Howard School Sports Partnership (covering all schools in Gillingham, Rainham, Strood and the rural area of Medway) commits to provide an efficient, high quality and school needs led service, we will continue to enable young people to become the best they can be through the medium of physical activity, physical education and sport."

LATEST DEVELOPMENT REGARDING GOVERNMENT CUTS IN THE SCHOOL SPORT PARTNERSHIP August 2011

Government funding for each Secondary School to employ a School Sports Co-ordinator (SSCo) one day per week has been secured (September 2011 – August 2013) however this funding is not ‘ring fenced’. At this point in time most (5 out of our 8 Secondary Schools) plan to employ a SSCo one day per week and work together in a co-ordinated manner as a Team/Partnership, helping both Primary Schools and their own Secondary. The 3 other secondary schools still plan to employ a SSCo one day per week, but have plans for these Teachers to work mainly to support their own secondary school (Rainham Mark Grammar School and Strood Academy). And Robert Napier plan to work mainly with their nearby Primary Schools (as the Partnership have had to unfortunately make charges for some services to Primary Schools due to severe government cuts, Robert Napier Secondary School felt that this was unacceptable and so decided to come out of the Partnership and work with Primary Schools themselves direct).

The Howard School have decided extend the role of the existing Partnership Development Manager (Central Co-ordinator for whole Partnership) and add the School Games Organiser to the job description. We have consulted through a questionnaire to PLT’s and several Primary Head Teacher meetings about the type and cost of future SSCo services Primary Schools may value through a series of packages.

As of mid-July 2011, 33 out of 50 Primary Schools have decided to sign up to and pay for various SSCo services in 2011-2012. For further details on the types of services available, please download this document:
MENU of packages and individual services for primary schools

Even if some Primary Schools do not buy into the formal services of the SSP, we will still consider them part of the Partnership and will still work to find funding to help them in close contact with a nearby SSCo.

MESSAGE FROM DEPT FOR CHILDREN, SCHOOLS AND FAMILIES
The Activemark, Sportsmark and Partnership Awards were reviewed during 2008-9 and were not awarded for 2009. During the academic year, a consultation has been carried out with representatives of the network and wider partners to determine a revised set of criteria for the Award that embraces the Success Measures associated with the five hour offer. Following this consultation, it has been agreed that the Award for 2010 will be called the Sportsmark Award for all schools and there will be three levels: Bronze, Silver and Gold. In line with previous years, the PESSYP survey data will be used to assess the 2010 awards. Details will be posted on our website: www.teachernet.gov.uk/pe - in due course.
